4 ways to elevate your bedroom with a new headboard

Have you ever stayed in a hotel room that doesn’t have a statement headboard behind the plump and stylish bed? Probably not. Why? A chic headboard is the surest and simplest way to make a bedroom look more elegant. And if hotels can do it, there’s absolutely no reason why you can’t replicate the look at home. Here’s how:

1 – Choose an upholstered headboard for an elegant look

There are all sorts of ways to create a headboard from built in versions with shelving to hanging a tapestry or a large piece of art on the wall behind the bed. Yes, artistic headboards can give a modern and funky feel to the bedroom, but if it’s an elegant hotel look you are after, you simply cannot go wrong with an upholstered headboard.

Choose from simple patterns and deeply cushioned headboards in a range of fabrics and colours. Velvet is definitely the in-fabric for headboards this year and it’s not hard to see why. Velvet is a fabric that lends a sumptuous and luxurious feel to any bedroom.

2 – Pick a plain headboard and pop against a luxurious patterned wallpaper

Going plain and simple with your headboard works perfectly against a backdrop of exuberantly colourful wallpaper. Shop around for a glamourous wallpaper print that will lend sleek sophistication and opulent luxury to your bedroom. Finish the look with a simple, velvet headboard and your bedroom will be transformed into a beautiful oasis.

3 – Create a grand backdrop (the bigger the better)

If your bedroom is an oasis of calm with muted, plain wall colours, then a large headboard can add a real touch of glamour to the room. The bigger and more luxuriously velvety the better – just make sure you have sufficient access to get it to your room of choice! Go plush and be sure you choose one with deep-set buttons or graphic panelling.

A tall headboard creates a sense of grandeur and will transform your humble bedroom into something much more stylish. Winged headboards will take the look to a whole new level.

4 – Add finesse with a sculpted headboard

Choosing a headboard with an attractive shape brings a real sense of refinement. Studded headboards in wool fabrics are popular. Or a headboard with a baroque-style profile will give your bedroom some chic French style.
